About this directory

The free map of who funds whom — both layers, cited. investordatabase.org is a public directory of investors: the venture and private-equity firms, corporate arms, accelerators and family offices that invest directly in companies, and the pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and funds of funds — the limited partners — that fund them. Each record says which layer it belongs to.

Five rules

  1. Free, and non-commercial for now. The directory is free without limits. A firms-only copy of the data is published at /data/investors.json under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 — no team mentions, no deal rows. Nothing on the site is for sale until at least December 2026; if that changes, it will be said here first.
  2. Only what investors publish about themselves. Every fact here was read from the investor's own website and links back to the page it came from. Nothing is copied from commercial databases or free directories — their terms forbid it, and we read them.
  3. People only as they publish themselves. A partner appears here only because their firm lists them on its own team page, with the role the firm gives — nothing else. No emails, phone numbers or personal facts, even when findable. An individual investor gets a record of their own only when they have their own public presence to source it from.
  4. Stage is a range. An investor that writes "seed to Series B" is recorded as that range, because stage is the risk axis and a single value would be false.
  5. Provenance per fact. A record built from three pages carries three citations, listed on the record.
  6. Links are verified by a script, not a model. A record is stamped "verified" only when its URL actually resolved on the date shown.

What is not here — and why an empty result is not "nothing exists"

This is an early, small version. Coverage is incomplete and biased toward investors who publish clearly: a firm with a plain website describing its stage and sectors is easy to record; a firm that says nothing is not. That is a permanent property of a self-published directory, not a temporary gap, so we state it rather than let a missing record read as a fact.

How investors are found

Two routes, both clean: the open-licence knowledge base Wikidata (CC0) as a seed list, and ordinary web search for regions it misses. Discovery tells us who exists; the investor's own site is the only source for what is true about them.

How to use it

The directory filters by layer, type, stage and country and searches names, sectors, cities and team members. The browse pages list investors by country, city, type, stage and sector — each with a short, generated summary of what is on it. New records appear in the feed.

Corrections and suggestions

If a record about your firm is wrong or stale, the fix is on your own website — we read it again on the next pass. To make that pass happen sooner, or to tell us about an investor we have missed, use the contact form. Messages stay on our own server and are read once a week.
